Do you use Twitter as an on-line marketing tool? If so, are you getting the best from it, is it delivering the right kind of results for your business? If Twitter isn’t really working for you then hopefully this blog will help to shed some light and provide some useful tips and advice on how you can use Twitter more effectively as a digital marketing tool for your business.
So, here’s my top ten tips for succeeding with and getting the best from Twitter:
- Your Profile – The first impression people get, so ensure it’s as good as possible. Use good quality images that are within the correct dimensions and ensure your key message and brand is being effectively portrayed.
- Be Active! There’s no point being on a social media platform if you aren’t going to actively contribute and regularly post content. For Twitter you ideally need to be posting 4-5 tweets per DAY. Also, ensure you ‘Like’ and ‘re-tweet’ relevant content from other people.
- Be Social – It’s called ‘social media’ for a reason. Ensure your tweets aren’t all too serious, inject some of your own personality, you want people to engage with you and for you to be an approachable person and / or brand.
- Follow – Follow relevant accounts, e.g. customers, suppliers, potential customers (from relevant trades / professions) and other peers, key influencers within your own industry.
- Respond – Always, always respond and reply to any comments and messages received either directly or on your Twitter feed.
- Use #Hashtags – A great way to target specific content, e.g. #socialmedia but NEVER use too many hashtags within a tweet, no more than 2-3. Otherwise, it comes across as far too ‘spammy’ and salesy.
- Mix it Up – Put out different types of content not just text only tweets, e.g. images, videos, infographics and links to relevant articles / reports you feel would interest your audience.
- Twitter Hours – Participate in ‘Twitter Hours’, these can be a good way to engage with fellow local businesses and increase your brand exposure.
- Advertise – Don’t be afraid to spend some budget on advertising. If done correctly it can prove very cost effective and is very targeted. It can help boost a tweet, increase the right type of followers, drive website traffic and capture leads
- Add Value – My final tip is to add value, in the sense of the content you post to Twitter. Ensure all of your content is relevant, of use and proves helpful to your target audience. Don’t add content for the sake of it, you ultimately want to enhance your reputation, awareness and induce responses.
Oh and one final tip – Enjoy it!
